Energy Cooperatives

REScoop.eu is the European federation of citizen energy cooperatives.

The term "REScoop" refers to energy cooperatives, a business model where citizens jointly own and participate in renewable energy or energy efficiency projects. Many don't have the legal statute of a cooperative, but operate like one. In 2022, REScoop had 1.900 cooperatives as members, operating across Europe, jointly representing over 1,25 million citizens.

The advantages of REScoops are as follows.

• Keep money in local economies and benefit local communities. Revenues from renewable energy projects often finance energy efficiency measures in public buildings.
• Foster social acceptance for renewable energy
• Help keep individual investment affordable
