I thought I could create my own plans -- but I don't see any input fields.
In order to create your own plan, you need to create your own user account. You can learn more about creating your own account here.
How do I create a user account?
To create your own user account, you need to register with this site.
To register, choose the menu item Account Options from the green menu panel on the left hand side of your screen. The User Management screen appears. Select "Register for an Account" to begin the registration process.
The first step to creating your user account is creating a userid and password. Be sure your userid and password are different! This is your entry key to accessing all your work, so you don't want anyone to guess how to access your account.
The system checks to see if your userid has already been used -- if it has, you'll be asked if you wish to try again. If you opt to Cancel, you are returned to the Tools of Change main page.
If your userid is accepted, you will be presented with the main registration screen. While most of the fields are optional, there are some that are mandatory.
An important feature of the Tools of Change web site is the User Profile section. By indicating what type of information you are interested in (from least interested to most interested), the Tools of Change web site customizes content for you. For example, let's say you ranked Active Living and Sustainable Transportation as more important than your other choices. The system would then favor active living and sustainable transportation examples and, where available, those would be the examples that you would see on your screen.
Once you have completed the main registration screen, click on the Register button to activate your account.
Instructions will then be presented to you to assist you in beginning your planning.
I've forgotten my userid/password.
For now, you'll need to contact our webmaster. In the future, we will activate a lookup feature that will email your password to your email address...
The dropdown menus on the site aren't working.
This web site is compatible with the following minimum browser version -- Netscape 2.02 and Internet Explorer 3.0. The Tools of Change web site makes use of javascript to activate some of the advanced features, including the drop-down menus, and older browser versions will not support javascript. You will need to download a newer browser version from Netscape or Microsoft.
I don't see any menu options on the left hand side of the screen.
This web site makes use of frames. Most likely you arrived at this site from a search engine, or a bookmark that references a subpage. You can re-enter the site and activate the frames by clicking here.
I've registered, yet none of the examples I see relate to the topics in which I'm most interested.
There could be two different reasons for this.
1. We may not yet have any examples for your topic of interest. You can check if this is the case by searching the site for that topic - if no case studies are found, there are no examples for us to use. Help us find some relevant case studies and we will include them.
2. When you last modified your interest profile, you may have ranked a number of other topics high. The examples you are seeing may relate to them. Modify your interest profile so that only the topic you are most interested in is rated most highly (see point below).
I want to change my user interest profile.
First, make sure you are logged into the web site. Once you have logged in, you can update your user profile by selecting the menu item Account Options, and the menu option Edit my Account. Make any changes you wish, and then click on the Submit button to save your changes.
I want to delete my user account.
First, make sure you are logged into the web site. Once you have logged in, you can delete your user account by selecting the menu item Account Options, and the menu option Delete my Account.
WARNING: When you opt to delete your account, you lose any work you have created -- be certain you wish to proceed with this step before deleting your account. Your work cannot be recovered once it is deleted.
Can I create more than one plan?
Currently, the Tools of Change web site is designed to allow one plan per user. However, you can cheat the system by creating more than one user account.
If you've already logged into the web site, you will need to close your web browser and re-enter the web site to create another account.
If you would be interested in seeing a feature to allow you to create multiple plans under one user account, please provide us with your feedback.
I left the web site and returned to a message indicating that my user session expired. What does this mean?
The Tools of Change web site remembers you for a period of 2 hours. This means if you log into the Tools of Change web site and then follow links from the Tools of Change web site to other web sites, and then return -- within 2 hours -- you won't have to log in again.
However, if you decide to close your browser, or if you surf external sites for more than 2 hours, the Tools of Change web site closes your user session -- you will have to log in again to reactivate your account.
My search query didn't return anything.
Try widening your search criteria. Probably you have specified too much detail and there are no matches for your search.
The feedback form keeps popping up with the same question several times in one session.
This sometimes happens if you use the Back button on your browser to return to the main page of one of the sections of the site (eg. from a case study back to the list of case studies, or from the Help main page back to the Planning Guide main page). To avoid this problem, use the buttons on the navigation bar on the left to return to these pages. You should be asked for feedback only once per session if you are logged on.
